See How an Accident Could Have Been Prevented With One of Everlock’s Multi-User Locking System
According to Suzanne Goldklang at News 16 WNEP, a 14-year-old girl narrowly escaped death after falling 100 feet into a well belonging to the water company, Pennsylvania American Water. Breaking her leg during the fall, the girl spent over three hours in frigid water while clinging to a ladder. Once emergency personnel got her out of the well, they rushed her to a hospital where she was treated for the broken leg and hypothermia.
The girl will reportedly recover without complications, though according to Covington Township Fire Chief Brad Jones, things easily could have taken a darker turn. If it had, improper security would have been to blame. Chief Jones told reporters, “I am hopeful that whoever owns the property sees this and takes care of the situation, because unfortunately, the next time we come out here, I don’t think the result will be the same; I think there will be a loss of life.”
While the girl was trespassing, first responders at the scene described the dangerous setting as lacking proper security measures. According to Pennsylvania American Water, previous trespassers had taken down “no trespassing” signs and cut locks. Having apparently failed to remedy these issues, it looks like the damaged security measures set in place might be at fault for the accident.
If the water company had the property security measures put in place, perhaps this incident could have been avoided. At Everlock Systems, we believe our SLX multi-user locking model would have been able to keep trespassers away from this dangerous setting. While a single lock on a chain will do little to slow down motivated trespassers with a pair of bolt cutters, our SLX system features up to ten independent locks, each surrounded by steel guards that prevent bolt cutters from accessing the locks. Intimidating to behold and impossible to bypass with bolt cutters, our SLX multi-user locking system will turn away causal trespassers like this 14-year-old girl who broke her leg. It will also deter the more determined trespassers who will most likely recognize the challenge of breaking our SLX system and ultimately decide to stay away.
Protecting the public from dangerous settings and protecting your own business from potential lawsuits should be paramount concerns. With Everlock Systems’ products, you can easily address both. For more information on our various multi-user locking systems, contact us today.
